14. Job Security

14.1 The University has the goal of maintaining the overall size of the workforce until the nominal expiry date of the Agreement. Wherever reasonably possible widespread redundancies and compulsory retrenchments are to be avoided but the University may use targeted redundancies as reductions in staff become necessary in some areas where restructuring occurs.

14.2 Clause 14.1 will have effect only until 30 June 2012.

14.3 The parties agree to the following in respect of casual sessional employment staffing:

(a) That by the nominal expiry date of the Agreement the total full-time equivalent number of sessional Teaching Associate academic staff will reduce as a proportion of the total full-time equivalent number of academic staff employed by the University.

(b) A target reduction of an average of 5% of the proportion set out in clause 14.3(a), including allowance for normal seasonal fluctuations. The proportion reached would not increase for the remainder of the operative life of the Agreement.

(c) The benchmark date for assessment of the targeted reductions in clauses 14.3(a) and 14.3(b) will be the pay cycle fortnight containing the third full teaching week of the semester commencing on or after the Operative Date of this Agreement.
