Training courses

The university is committed to providing staff with access to, and information about, training courses that enhance their existing skills, and help them formulate new ones, with the aim of improving their performance in their existing role and developing their potential to progress within the university.

A need for training may be identified by the member of staff, or initiated by their supervisor, often in response to a review of the staff member's performance and consideration of the university's objectives.

Supervisors may elect, if they have budgetary discretion, to complete their own arrangements for staff members to attend training courses, or, depending on the area of training required, they may elect to use the resources available through the Staff Development Unit and/or other university providers.

Cost of attendance at approved training courses is not normally a charge borne by individual members of staff.

Where the training course falls within the university's normal hours of business, attendance shall be to the university's cost in time.

Except for exceptional circumstances, members of staff attending training courses should not absent themselves from a course once commenced.

Members of staff attending training courses are expected to complete an evaluation and forward copies to their supervisor and the training provider.
