Support for staff
Use of resourcesStaff performance is dependent not only on the intellectual development of the individual. The full, rounded development of the person involves other aspects as well, such as the emotional, moral, health and recreational. Full staff potential can only be realised when the person is able to effectively adapt to changes, when obstacles and frustrations are viewed as challenges, where there is a commitment to persevere and overcome problems and, where the individual feels in control of his or her situation and destiny. The university provides a number of resource centres to assist staff whose performance and career progress is being hampered by personal problems such as stress and anxieties related to work, interpersonal conflicts and lifestyle. All university staff may freely consult professional staff of the various resource centres without charge and, on a confidential basis. The principal centres which may be of interest to staff are listed below. Health serviceThe Health Service is available to help staff with a wide range of health issues, including emergency care, sexual health, travel, sports medicine and general health advice. Consultations are available with female and male doctors, and with the Campus Nurse. The Health Service is open between 9 am - 5 pm Monday to Friday, and appointments are preferable. Medicare is bulk billed for Australian residents. Family and child care serviceThe Family and Child Care Service assists staff to link into on-campus child care centres, and to access information on other child care options. We provide help with parenting, work, study and family issues by referring to the Counseling Service and/or other relevant services. Vacation Care Programs for children aged 5-14 years are offered over school holidays; and we are able to offer advice on selecting the most suitable child care arrangements for each family. Information is available on a number of family and child care issues, including Child Care rebates. Employee Assistance ProgramEmployee Assistance Program is a free, confidential counselling and advisory service that supports the University staff and their family members who are experiencing difficulties at home or at work. Monash University has an internal/external model of Employee Assistance Program. The internal component of the program is delivered by the University Counselling Service and the external component is provided by IPS Worldwide (Phone: 1 300 366 789). The University extends the services of the external provider to staff and their family members. Counselling serviceThe Counselling Service provides a professional and confidential psychological counselling service to staff. Individual counselling is offered for personal problems, work life and relationship issues. Programs are also run in areas of stress management, self-esteem, relaxation and communication skills. The staff are qualified psychologists with skills in helping people to explore and understand difficulties that may be affecting how they work and relate with people around them and staff who may require, vocational and psychological testing is also available. Housing advisory serviceThe Housing Advisory Service is able to assist staff with advertised offers of accommodation. Housing officers are available for staff to help with housing issues and are professionally trained in aspects of Tenancy Law. The service also manages 10 fully furnished flats and houses, available to Monash staff or visiting staff, to assist with their transition.
