Staff development - General staffConsiderationThe Staff Development Unit (SDU), a central service area within Human Resources Division is the principal resource centre for General staff development. SDU facilitates and provides a range of formal and informal in-house and external staff development opportunities that equip members of General staff to fulfil their personal potential and the overall objectives of the university. General staff development is concerned with providing opportunities for staff to acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills that will support their work and enhance their career options. Participation in activities of relevant professional associations is a valuable form of General staff development. General staff development also aims to assist staff improve the efficiency and effectiveness with which the university is able to fulfil its goals and objectives. Each member of the General staff may expect her/his immediate supervisor to provide guidance for improving job performance through the acquisition of skills, thereby enhancing prospects of career advancement.
