Leave matters
Replacement of staff during leaveIt is normally expected that administrative units will make arrangements for the performance of the duties of a member of staff temporarily absent from duty. Leave is an entitlement of staff and granting leave should not normally incur extra expense. If, however, in the opinion of the Head of Administrative Unit or group, as appropriate, it is essential to replace a member of staff who is on leave, a temporary replacement may be arranged. A staff member normally returns to the position occupied prior to taking leave. The staff member should be advised before returning from leave of any position change occurring during the leave period. Deferment of leave - Academic staffThe Vice-Chancellor may defer in an emergency the date of any absence from duty of a staff member, not withstanding any approval already given, until the abnormal circumstances causing the deferment can be dealt with in another way. If such deferment causes financial loss to the staff member because of reasonable commitments already made, the University will meet the cost. In the event of any dispute over the amount of any such financial loss, the dispute shall be submitted for arbitration to a committee consisting of one member each from Council and the Academic Board, plus a nominee of the Chair of the Monash University Staff Implementation Committee from the pool of elected staff members of the University established under clause 12 of the Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Academic and General Staff) 2005 Absence from the University - ProfessorsProfessors are asked to advise the Head of their Department/School when they plan to be absent from the University for more than two days at a time and to make arrangements for urgent matters to be dealt with during this absence. Heads of Departments/Schools are asked to advise the Dean of their Faculty in similar circumstances and to nominate a deputy where not already appointed. In the case of more prolonged absences, the Dean should ask the Vice-Chancellor to appoint an Acting Head |
