University holiday payments - Academic & General Staff only.A staff member who either worked or was on leave counting as service on Labour Day, Queen's Birthday and/or Melbourne Cup Day will receive compensating pay at ordinary rates to cover his/her absence on substitute days taken as university holidays. The compensating payment will be on the basis of five days (university holidays) for three days(Labour Day, Queen's Birthday and Melbourne Cup Day). Provided that where the employment of such staff member terminates prior to the commencement of the closedown period when those substitute days are taken as university holidays, the compensating pay in lieu of working Labour Day, Queen's Birthday, and/or Melbourne Cup Day will be at the rate of one and one-third day's pay for each of those days worked. A staff member who was not employed or was on unpaid leave not counting as service or on an unauthorised absence on Labour Day, Queen's Birthday, and/or Melbourne Cup Day will be debited a compensating amount of annual leave, accumulated time-off-in-lieu, rostered days off or leave without pay when substitute days are taken instead of Labor Day, Queens Birthday and/or Melbourne Cup Day. The compensating amount will be on the basis of five days (university holidays) for three days (Labour Day, Queen's Birthday, and Melbourne Cup Day). Annual leave will apply except where the supervisor notifies Human Resources in writing of alternative arrangements. In the event of leave without pay being granted, such leave will not result in non-payment for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and/or New Years Day. Where sufficient annual leave has not accrued, staff members will be given the opportunity to take annual leave in advance. Subject to above, a staff member is not entitled to payment for a university holiday if on unpaid leave (not counting as service) on the working day before and after the university holiday or on an unauthorised absence on the working day before and/or after the university holiday. A shift worker whose rostered days off in a week fall on university holidays and who does not work on that day has the same number of days added to annual leave credits. Alternatively the university may give an additional day's pay at the rate for the day. A staff member normally rostered for duty on cycles which may include Saturdays and Sundays will, if a university holiday coincides with a day on which the staff member is due to be rostered off, be granted an extra day off at a mutually convenient time. A casual staff member is not eligible for payment for university holidays unless the staff member is required to work on such a day. Holiday penalty rates apply to the whole of the hours worked on a university holiday. Please refer to clause 42 - Christmas/New Year Close Down Arrangements and clause 41 - University Holidays of the Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Academic and General Staff) 2005 or, where applicable, the provisions of the relevant AWA Terms and Benefits Policy. |
