Identity Cards (ID cards)

Availability

Photo identification cards are issued to all members of staff and to other persons who have a requirement for an identification card.

An ID card is generally issued when a person joins the university.

Procedure for issue

Requests for authorising the issue of a staff ID card should be made to Human Resources.

Requests for issue of an ID card to non-staff must be made in writing by an officer of the university.

Use of ID cards

Photo identification cards should be carried on the person at all times in order to gain access to the university. Patrol officers will refuse entry to the university after normal hours if an ID card cannot be produced on demand.

An ID card is required for borrowing books from the university library and may be required for use of other facilities.

Currency of ID cards

Staff ID cards remain valid until recalled unless there is an expiry date printed on the card. If an expiry date has been reached, it may be extended by an officer of Human Resources.

Persons leaving the university are asked to return their ID cards to Human Resouces or the library.

The university pays a number of subscriptions from central funds to major bodies such as ANZAAS, AVCC, AINSE, AIM, CUIC, etc.

Telephone calls ISD/STD of a private nature

The following methods are available for private ISD/STD telephone calls:

  • Use multi-coin operated telephones (green coloured) located within the university. It would be preferable if these multi-coin telephones were used and the university's facilities restricted to official business.
  • Place the call through the switchboard operator who will arrange for the cost of the call to be deducted from the caller's next salary payment. A staff number must be quoted for charging purposes.

Outside multi-coin operated telephones with ISD and STD facilities are located on campus at the following points on Clayton Campus:

  • Campus Centre- ground floor, first floor and outside of Union theatre;
  • Law building - basement locker area;
  • North west corner of Engineering building 2, adjacent to Hargrave library;
  • Menzies building - basement locker area;
  • Bus loop, off Wellington road;
  • Main library - ground floor foyer, basement foyer area;
  • Mathematics building - ground floor foyer;
  • Foyer, sports and recreation centre;
  • Wellington Road entrance.

The university cannot accept any responsibility for books, equipment or other items of a personal nature which staff may find desirable to have at their place of work.

Staff members are urged to be aware of security at all times. If items of a valuable nature are kept at the university, staff members should consider arranging personal insurance cover, especially during extended leave at conferences and OSP and, when on annual leave.
