Overview

Participants will gain a basic understanding of how copyright law operates within an Australian university context and the ability to identify and manage copyright issues that may arise as part of their work at Monash. 

Sessions will focus on how to manage copyright in teaching and learning activities, research and in other areas of University business operations.  

This workshop will look at common questions like:

  • Do my course materials comply with copyright law?
  • Can I copy something from the internet and use it in my teaching?
  • What if I am copying something for my research, how much can I copy? 

Intended Outcomes

After completion of the workshop, participants should have a basic understanding of how copyright law operates in Australian universities and any problem areas that might come up as part of their work. Participants will be provided with sources of further information as well as being encouraged to contact the Copyright Adviser for assistance.

Course Content

Discussion on practical application of the Copyright Act allowances to regular workplace tasks that may involve copyright compliance. Particular focus on educational licences, contracts and using content from the internet drawing upon real life examples involving copyright problems.

Course notes and navigation of the copyright website with lists of sources of free content will be provided to those who attend. 

Pre-work

Participant need to identify where they encounter copyright in their work and bring work materials examples to the session to aid discussions.
