PD Writing (formerly PD and classification proposal writing)

Target group:

This program is relevant for all staff who need to learn how to write a position description in the Monash format.

Group size:Maximum of 16
Level 1-2 program:Suitable for supervisors and staff with limited experience, for those wishing to refresh their skills or for more experienced supervisors and staff.

Overview

A current, accurate position description are agreed documents between supervisor and staff member. These documents are fundamental for a number of University processes, including:

  • Performance management: establishing goals and objectives for individual performance plans
  • Job evaluation
  • Position re-classification
  • Training and career development: identifying learning needs

Intended Outcomes

  • An understanding of the purpose and uses of a well written position description
  • Identification of the new position description format and the position classification proposal form, and knowledge of the steps involved in completing these documents
  • Increased ability to write an accurate position description and position classification proposal form

Course Content

  • Purposes/uses of the position description and the position classification proposal form
  • Process of preparing for and writing both documents
  • Writing the position description; organisational context, key result areas and responsibilities, key selection criteria, and other job related information as well as the position classification proposal form
