RSO Refresher Training

Target group:

RSOs/Deputy RSOs who completed the Monash RSO training more than three years ago, or who have RSO training from another institution.

Group size:Maximum 30 (depending on room capacity), Minimum 4
Level 1 program:

A pass (75%) in both on-line radiation examinations is required as a pre-requisite

Overview

This course is designed for Radiation Safety Officers and Deputy RSOs who have already undergone RSO training in the past. It offers a refresher on the basic activities and responsibilities of an RSO, with an emphasis on Monash policy and procedures.

Intended Outcomes

Understand duties of a Radiation Safety Officer, the hazards and controls when working with radiation.  To assist RSO's and their deputies in fulfilling their legislative role in providing a safe workplace.

Course Content

The course will have an overview of all the modules of the full RSO training course:

  • Waste Management/Emergency & Incident Procedures
  • Contamination Control & Monitoring
  • Storage & Transport/Planned Irradiation of Animals & Humans
  • Radiation Roles & Responsibilities/Radiation Risk Assessments
  • X-Ray Safety with an emphasis on the specific responsibilities of a Monash RSO

 

Learning Approach

Lecture format reinforcing through the use of examples and discussion of local use of Radiation, hazards associated and mitigation using Monash systems and the hierarchy of control.
