Web fundamentals

Target group:Academic and general staff who have little knowledge about the Internet and the web and wish to know more.
Group size:Maximum 12
Level 1 program:
  • Familiar with the use of Windows operating system

Skills review quiz

It is encouraged that staff complete this quiz. The aim of the quiz is three-fold.

  1. Staff can use the quiz to determine that they do not have sufficient knowledge about the web and would benefit from attending this workshop.
  2. Staff can use the quiz to veify that they do have the knowledge and do not need to attend the workshop or
  3. Staff can use the quiz as a post workshop review to ensure they have understand the workshop material.

Overview

The focus of this workshop is to demystify what is referred to as the web and to relate it to the Monash University context. The content has been tailored to the Monash environment however many of the principles covered can be applied to other situations. i.e (home)

Intended Outcomes

  • have an understanding of what is the web
  • have an understanding of the components and functionality of a Monash web page
  • support staff in understanding the web especially if the staff member intends to undertake the training to use the content managment system

Course Content

On completion of this workshop participants will:

  • have an understanding of what is the web
  • have an understand of the file / folder structure of the web and how this relates to the web addressing
  • be able to understand and configure Internet Explorer for safe browsing
  • have an understanding of the components and functionality of a Monash web page
  • have learnt techniques for searching effectively on the web
