Working with long documents in Word

1.5 day program

Target group:

Academic or General staff working with long documents who need to:

  • ensure formatting is consistent,
  • be able to streamline cross-referencing and captioning
  • generate and update Table of Figures, Table of Contents and Indexing seamlessly

This workshop is also suitable to those formatting or writing their thesis.

Group size:Minimum 5 - Maximum 10
Level 1 program:
  • Use of Windows operating system and working with files and folders
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word

Overview

To introduce users how best to utilise the functionality within Word to assist in working and manipulating large documents

Intended Outcomes

Participants through hands-on experience will learn the skills to use functions within Word to format and manage a large doucment efficiently. This document could be a report, a thesis, a training manual or any other large document.

Course Content

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • create a new document based on a template and apply styles
  • create and modify a style
  • apply a style to text in a document
  • manage the use of styles
  • use the AutoText, AutoComplete, AutoCorrect and AutoFormat features
  • use sections to correctly format your documents
  • add captions, cross-references and a table of figures to documents
  • create, modify and delete bookmarks, endnotes and footnotes
  • create master and subdocuments
