Overview
A knowledge of counselling skills and how to apply them can be very valuable both in the workplace and in personal life in general. This workshop is designed for staff who have not trained professionally as counsellors but who wish to enhance their skill in this area. The course will explore basic counselling skills and participants will have the opportunity to practice skills necessary for more effective counselling.
Intended Outcomes
- Identification and exploration of core counselling/communication skills and principles
- Identification of existing skills and strengths that participants have and to develop new skills
- Enhanced awareness of strategies and skills in dealing with a wide variety of people and situations in the workplace

- Principles of effective counselling
- Key communication skills in counselling
- Identification of personal style and strengths in interpersonal communication
- Responding differently according to the person and the situation

A comprehensive set of workshop notes will be distributed showing all content areas as well as activities and exercises.
