Choice of Superannuation Fund

The Federal Government introduced Choice of Fund Legislation effective from 1 July 2005 providing for many Australian employees to choose which fund their employer's 9% superannuation guarantee contributions are paid into.
Staff members who are not eligible to choose the fund for superannuation guarantee contributions are those:

• whose super is paid under a certified agreement or an Australian Workplace Agreement (applicable to most Monash staff)
• who are members of a particular type of 'defined benefit' fund (applicable to Monash staff in UniSuper Defined Benefit Division
• whose super is paid under a State Government Award (not applicable to Monash)

Staff members wishing to nominate a fund other than UniSuper may wish to negotiate an Australian Workplace Agreement (AWA) with the university with specific reference to superannuation.
