Academic Heads Network

Academic Heads Website

As part of a strategic approach to senior leadership and management development at Monash, and in response to issues raised at the annual Academic Heads Conference, an Academic Heads Network was convened in 2007.

The purpose of the Academic Heads Network is:

  1. to support academic heads in their leadership and management roles by sharing good practice, drawing on the experience of the University and the group to solve common problems, and
  2. to provide an opportunity to network in an informal environment.

A model of operation for the Network was formulated by the Academic Heads Network Convenors’ Panel which currently comprises:

  • Associate Professor Colleen Lewis (Director Caulfield & Berwick School of Humanities Communications and Social Sciences)
  • Associate Professor Arthur de Bono (Head, Department of Design)
  • Associate Professor Louise Farnworth (Head, Department of Occupational Therapy)
  • Associate Professor Graham Farr (Head of Caulfield School of IT)
  • Professor Kim Langfield-Smith (Deputy Dean BusEco)
  • Michael Spiegel (Deputy Director, Monash Antibody Technology Facility)

For relevance and sustainability, the Network is owned by its membership, which includes heads and deputy heads of school and department, campus-based heads of faculty, directors of academic units and directors of research, deputy deans and associate deans.
