Parental leave incorporates:
Managing for success:
- All elements of the staff member's workload should be adjusted in line with the relevant fraction eg. teaching, research and administration
- A culture of acceptance and mutual support is fostered within the work unit
- Effective communication strategies ensure that the staff member is informed of developments that may take place while they are absent
- Work unit meetings are re-scheduled to take place when the staff member can attend
- Care is taken to ensure that staff fully understand the impact on his/her salary and entitlements
- Strategies to overcome possible 'career stagnation' should be developed by re-visiting performance management and/or performance enhancement objectives
- Arrangements are regularly assessed and fine-tuned in line with agreed work-unit key performance indicators.
