Student Identity (ID) Cards

Your student ID card can be used for the following things:

  • borrowing books from the library
  • 'smart card' for purposes at the University
  • to obtain discounts with some outside organisations
  • as a form of identification by university staff at their request when you make an enquiry at a service counter
  • may provide building and room access where authorised
  • to add credits to print balances and to print documents

Student ID cards must be displayed at all time-tabled examinations, it must be carried at all times within the University, shown or surrendered on deman by authorised University Officers. .

Student ID cards remain the property of the University and are not transferable.

New-to-course students

As a new student of Monash University, your ID card will be issued on Enrolment day as part of the enrolment process. ID cards issued are valid for the duration of your course (with a maximum of 5 years) and therefore do not require updating each year.  If you are undertaking study by off-campus delivery your ID card will be posted to your nominated address.

In the circumstance where you have appointed a proxy to attend Enrolment day on your behalf, you can visit a Student Service Centre  (after Enrolment day) at a time suitable to you and have your photo taken and the ID card issued.

Returning students

ID cards issued during (and post) 2003 will be valid for the duration of your course (with a maximum of 5 years) and therefore will not be updated annually.

If your ID card has expired, please present your expired card at any Student Service Centre  to exchange for a replacement card free of charge. For Off Campus Learning Students, please contact 03 9902 6011 for replacement ID card arrangements.

Replacement cards

You can request a replacement card from the Student Services Centre  for a fee  if your ID card has been damaged, lost or stolen.   Photographic identification, eg driver's licence or passport, must be presented upon application.

If you have lost your student ID card, you should report the loss to the Library to prevent anyone else from borrowing books in your name. 

Your student ID card may also have been used to gain access to student computer laboratories. To ensure security is maintained, you must report the loss of your card to the ITS Service Desk.

The student identity card remains the property of the university and it is not transferable.
