DisciplineStudent discipline is governed by Statute 4.1 - Discipline. The statute deals with three kinds of misconduct: General misconductGeneral misconduct means any behaviour which is contrary to a policy of the university or to generally accepted standards of behaviour and includes behaviour which attacks, harass, intimidates, threatens or endangers others. It covers knowing (an intentional act) and reckless (an act done without regard to its risk or disregarding a known risk) conduct. Academic misconductAcademic misconduct means cheating, attempting to cheat or assisting a fellow student to cheat, or submission of substantially similar work. Any means used to obtain an unfair advantage in work submitted for assessment may be considered as cheating. Examples include cheating in examinations, plagiarism, submitting a false medical certificate in support of an application for special consideration or submitting work which was previously submitted for assessment at Monash or another university. Research misconductResearch misconduct is conduct by a student in connection with research which is dishonest, reckless or negligent and seriously deviates from accepted standards within the scientific and scholarly communites for proposing, conducting or reporting research.
